Frequently Asked Questions
ConEd, like many utilities, offers these incentives to balance electricity supply and demand and increase grid reliability. This is especially useful during seasons of high energy demand usage, such as the summer months.
You could enroll yourself if your load is 50 kW or greater. However, we’ve found that most of our customers are unable to cover these minimums on their own. That's where we come in as a demand response “aggregator,” making enrollment and participation not only possible, but seamless.
We’re not just a curtailment service provider, we’re also a retail energy supplier, which means we offer more opportunities for meaningful cost savings. With us, you get access to incentive programs like Demand Response and rate consultations to lower your monthly bills. On top of that, we provide technology to remotely manage smart thermostats across multiple locations and automatically monitor your electricity bills for potential scams or errors.
You’ll need to:
- Be billed directly by ConEd (If you receive a ConEd bill, we can help you confirm this!)
- Integrate your smart thermostats with the David Energy platform
- First, ConEd notifies us of an upcoming Demand Response event. We’ll let you know as soon as we find out, which will be between 2 to 24 hours in advance of the scheduled event.
- When the event starts, our software will automatically adjust your thermostat settings to reduce usage for 1-4 hours. If needed, we’ll pre-cool the space to ensure customer comfort.
- These events will take place an average of 5 times throughout the season (for ConEd, the season is May to September).
- You get paid in the following Q1. Your final earnings will depend on your summer electricity demand and performance during demand response events.
The number of Demand Response events can vary from year to year, but you can typically expect up to 5 events lasting between 1 and 4 hours.
You can override temperature changes during a savings event anytime. However, it will affect your participation rate and ultimately, your Demand Response payment.
To earn the highest possible incentive, we recommend 100% participation for the total duration of Demand Response events.
