How do I read the comparison chart?

Here are some helpful definitions to understand what you’re looking at:

‍Term: The contract length in months.
‍TDU: Charges from your Transmission and Distribution Utility company (Oncor or Centerpoint).
‍RTW: Real-Time Wholesale price. Prices update every 15 minutes. RTW averages ~3.0¢ over the course of a year.
‍Annual Battery Credit: The credit you can earn by participating in the retailer's battery program.

How do you calculate which plan is the best one for me?

The tool analyzes all available plan details, including base fees, terms, restrictions, and time-of-use rates. Based on the details of your system, we evaluate first which plans you qualify for, and then how your unique set up will interact with the plan’s specifications to project a total annual cost.  You’ll receive two estimates in the tool:

‍Electricity cost, or cost before credits are applied, which is calculated as: 12 x ((Retailer base fee + TDU base fee) + (kWh imports x (Retailer import rate + TDU import rate )) - (kWh exports x Retailer export rate))

‍Total annual cost, which is calculated as: Electricity cost - annual battery credit. For battery credits that vary, this is calculated using the midpoint.

Which plans are included on this list? Are they up to date?

This calculator includes the majority of publicly available solar buyback plans, sourced via Texas Power Guide. Prices are updated weekly. If you see a plan that’s missing from the tool, please email us to add it.

Why do battery credits vary?

Some plans provide a fixed monthly credit in exchange for your battery power. David Energy’s plan allows you to adjust your reserve capacity to your preferred level, which means your credit changes depending on your settings. Credits can also be subject to grid conditions and battery performance.
